How to Straighten Your Smile Without Wearing Braces

girl smilingCrooked teeth are one of the complaints I receive most often. Slightly rotated or widely spaced teeth can make a smile appear juvenile or unprofessional, and your self-confidence can suffer because of it. Many times, patients with crooked teeth have worn braces in the past, but their teeth have shifted, and now they’re dissatisfied with the results. I understand their hesitation to wear braces again – braces of any kind require a significant time commitment, not to mention the embarrassment of looking like a teenager. As a cosmetic dentist in the Dallas/Plano area, I offer many solutions to straighten your teeth without the hassle of metal braces. Most of these treatments can be performed in just one or two visits, and the results are extremely esthetic and long-lasting.

Cosmetic treatments to straighten teeth without braces include:

Cosmetic bonding is a one-visit procedure in which I apply a putty-like material to the teeth to close wide spaces or re-shape teeth. A conservative treatment, bonding doesn’t require any reduction of healthy tooth structure. I can produce extremely lifelike results with bonding, and the procedure takes just a few hours. The only down side to bonding is that it can absorb stains, and periodic touchups are usually required to maintain the look you want.

Porcelain veneers are another conservative treatment that take just a few visits to complete. The highest quality porcelains are custom designed and bonded to the surface of your teeth to create the perfect smile. With veneers, I can cover stains, close gaps, correct slight misalignments, and much more. Porcelain veneers won’t ever stain, so you can enjoy a dazzling, white smile for years to come. Modern porcelains are so thin and durable that I only need to remove a very thin layer of enamel to place them. With porcelain veneers, you’ll be extremely satisfied with the results, and they’ll last for years and years.

Porcelain crowns work well for patients with severe crowding or rotated teeth, and they can often be used in conjunction with porcelain veneers. I typically recommend all-ceramic crowns, especially when dealing with front teeth. All-ceramic crowns reflect light like natural tooth enamel, function like natural teeth, and don’t have that black line at the base that so many patients hate. Porcelain crowns can be placed in just two or three visits, they won’t stain, and the results are stunning.
