Replacement Teeth 101

bridge-at-labWhen it comes to replacement teeth, the good news is that you have choices. At Fitzgerald Dental Center, I create custom bridges, dentures, and partials to replace missing teeth. I also offer dental implants, the replacement tooth technique that’s quickly becoming the preferred option for my Plano and North Dallas patients. But do you have the information you need to make informed decisions about your smile? I’m Dr. Lee Fitzgerald. Let me explain the basics of the replacement teeth alternatives I provide.

Dentures: Traditional dentures replace full upper and/or lower rows of teeth. They contain man-made teeth set in a base the color of natural gum tissue. Dentures fit securely over the jawbone ridge to restore the smiles of patients missing all or most of their teeth. Dentures are removable, and many patients require adhesive to hold them in place. To provide added strength and stability, I can secure dentures with dental implants.

Partials: A partial denture is a removable prosthetic that fills gaps spread throughout a smile. Partials contain realistic-looking teeth created in a lab and applied to a flexible base. Unobtrusive clasps fit over healthy teeth to secure a partial denture. Alternatively, a partial can be attached to dental implants.

Bridges: A bridge is a fixed replacement tooth technique for patients missing one or more teeth in a row. I’ll crown the teeth on either side of the gap in your smile, then anchor your bridge to the newly crowned teeth. I may suggest securing your bridge to dental implants.

Dental Implants: A dental implant replaces the part of the tooth below and above the gum line to reproduce natural structure. Titanium posts inserted in the jawbone secure custom replacement teeth. I use dental implants to replace single teeth and to stabilize dentures, partials, and bridges. Dental implants are considered a fixed tooth replacement option, meaning you don’t remove them.

My team uses advanced technology and an in-house lab to create custom replacement teeth that provide an impeccable look and feel. I’ll work with you personally to create a solution that meets your needs and fits your budget.
